I am very concerned regarding the variation in duties from school to school. I am a member of sandwell schools' librarians network and every school sees the librarians role very differently. Are there any guidelines set down anywhere?

Susan - thanks for this. It's certainly true that there's great variation in resourcing, staffing, etc of school libraries. I've asked our Professional Adviser in this field, Jonathan Douglas, to contact you with information regarding guidelines.
